Fujitsu Microelectronics Joins Hands with UESTC to Boost the Semiconductors Talent Cultivation Progress in China


Shanghai, June 26, 2006 — Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. today announced that the signing ceremony for the agreement on the joint lab and friendly cooperation between it and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) was held on June 23 in UESTC as scheduled. The signing of the friendly cooperation agreement symbolizes the further consolidation of the cooperation between Fujitsu Microelectronics and UESTC in future. Both sides noted that they would conduct the cooperation in the fields of talent cultivation and scientific research projects by the carrier of the joint lab.

Edwin Kwong, Senior Vice President of Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Asia Pacific said on the signing ceremony that Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., since its official operation in October 2003, has all along paid special attention to the cooperation with colleges and universities in Mainland China, regarding it as a part of the long-term development strategy of Fujitsu to bravely expand Chinese semiconductor market. The establishment of Fujitsu Microelectronics-UESTC joint lab will serve as a bridge in the cooperation between Fujitsu Microelectronics and UESTC, and a carrier by which Fujitsu Microelectronics conducts cooperation in R&D, talent cultivation and corporate culture publicity in UESTC.

Professor Wang Houjun, Vice President of UESTC also expressed that Fujitsu Microelectronics is a world leading semiconductor provider, taking the advanced place in the field of semiconductors. Fujitsu Microelectronics, which chose to conduct formal friendly cooperation with UESTC, provided an advanced platform for the students of UESTC by the foundation of Fujitsu Microelectronics-UESTC joint lab, helping students contact the cutting-edge technology of the industry, thus inputting new vigour into the current education of the university.

UESTC is among the first batch of key universities directly under the Ministry of Education that were selected for the national "211 Project" and "985 Project", and the only university whose all specialties of two disciplines, namely Electric Science and Technology, and Information and Communications Engineering are national key disciplines in China. As one of the earliest institutions of higher education that established the microelectronics major in China, UESTC currently owns doctoral program and master's program and post-doctoral research station for Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics, which is a national key discipline, and also serves as one of the first batch of integrated circuit talent cultivation bases.

After the signing ceremony, Edwin Kwong, Senior Vice President of Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Asia Pacific, held an excellent speech on Growing from an Engineering Student to a Professional, making close communication with the students of UESTC.

It is learnt that Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd at present has cooperated with many famous colleges and universities in Mainland China, making its own contribution to encouraging colleges and universities to cultivate quality talents. Every year, Fujitsu Microelectronics holds events such as contests for colleges, universities and society, and university tour, etc. Meanwhile, Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd plans to further deepen the cooperation with universities in Mainland China, and expand the range of cooperation by exploring more effective cooperation ways with an aim to further strengthen the interaction with famous universities in China, deliver the cutting-edge technology information and market trend mastered by the company more promptly and effectively to talents of related specialty in universities and assist universities in training talents to meet the social demand.
