Fujitsu Announces Launch of Image Processing System LSI for Digital SLR Camera

Realizing low power consumption with 90nm technology of Mie plant

February 13, 2006 — Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recently announced that Fujitsu Limited has developed a new image processing system LSI - “MB91680” for digital SLR camera, and will be launched in the market since February 1.

"MB91680" is universal LSI produced by Fujitsu Limited, with the first use of 90nm CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) technology. This product, jointly developed by Fujitsu VLSI Ltd., (Note 1) and Fujitsu Micro Solutions Ltd., (Note 2) realizes high quality image processing of digital SLR with low power consumption, a LSI product with highest standard in the field.

The image processing system LSI-"MB91680" of Fujitsu can integrate the functions such as compression and noise reduction required by image processing into one chip, and can be applied to multiple products including digital camera and handset.

The new product "MB91680" is manufactured by Mie Plant, the most leading-edge semiconductor manufacturer of Fujitsu Limited, employing the 90nm CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) technology with 300 millimeter (mm) wafers, realizing low power consumption and high processing speed, and reducing 30% of power consumption compared with 180nm products under the same condition. In addition, due to the integration of technology of anti-noise by latest algorithm, it achieves fine imaging, capable of suppressing the reflected noise and color noise when the resolution capacity of camera device including CCD reaches the limit (Note 3), and it is also equipped with the function of color conversion, making it possible to transform specific color to any color. Fitted with the most leading-edge embedded CPU core "FR80" of Fujitsu Limited, that is, “FR” series of high performance 32-bit RISC microcomputer originated by Fujitsu, the transmission speed is 4 times that of the past, realizing the high speed continuous shooting of multiple pixel camera and swift shutter response.

Meanwhile, it realizes the more advanced portable function. For example, it has lossless data compression function, capable of compressing or resizing the original data of camera image without losing information. It is also equipped with the interface for HDTV（Note 4）and interface for HDMI（Note 5）so as to facilitate the connection with AV equipments. Moreover, it has built-in USB2.0 interface, digital LCD interface and various kinds of memory card interfaces necessary for use of digital camera.
