Fujitsu Launches New 8-bit MCU F2MC-8FX Series with Low Power Consumption (μW ) and Plentiful Timers

Shanghai, November 28, 2005 — Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recently announced that it launched 8-bit MCU F²MC-8FX series mainly for consumer electronics, automobile electronics and industrial applications. The latest F²MC-8FX series 8-bit MCU adopts 0.35μm low leak process technology, by which mask products can operate under low power consumption operation mode (clock mode) of 1.8Vand 1μA; meanwhile, it uses a pipeline bus structure that doubles the execution speed with the fastest processing speed reaching 5 times that of F²MC-8L series.

Deputy General Manager of Fujitsu Microeelectronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Mr. Andy Chang considered that in view of the latest digital household appliances and mobile electronic products having numerous top grade functions, 8-bit MCU must feature fast processing and low power consumption. F²MC-8FX series 8-bit MCU has substantially improved its own resources besides satisfying those two characteristics.

The product is equipped with plentiful timers include 8-/16-bit composite timer (functions include Interval timer, PWM, PWC and Capture), 16-bit reload timer, 8-/16-bit PPG, 16-bit PPG, time base timer and monitoring pre-scaler (only in double clock products). Dual-operation flash memory is one of the features of 8-bit MCU of F²MC-8FX series, when one program is processing in a memory area, it can complete rewriting in another memory area, and reduce the surface area of circuit board by minimizing the number of external memorizer parts. In addition, LVD (Low Voltage Detection) and CSV（Clock Supervisor）functions can improve the stability and reliability of target system.

The product philosophy of F²MC-8FX family is shown in the following figure. Besides, since the product series are designed to ensure all directives (except directives related to division) are compatible to the traditional F²MC-8L family. Therefore, it is very easy to transplant program from F²MC-8L family series.

The data from CCID indicates that with the rapid growth of domestic electronic information industry, MCU enjoys wider and wider application scope. In terms of Chinese market, the currently mainstream MCU is still 8-bit product, whose market occupancy reaches over a half. The application market focuses on communication, information, consumer electronic product and household appliances, among which the speedy growth of domestic market of consumer electronic product and household appliances product results in the increasing requirement on performance and power consumption for 8-bit MCU along with the steady increase in the demand of 8-bit MCU.
