Fujitsu to Demonstrate Reference Design with Video Streaming, Web Browsing Using WiMAX
Shanghai, November 7, 2005 — Fujitsu Microelectronics, a leader in broadband wireless technology development, will provide a comprehensive update on the pivotal role of semiconductor technology in the WiMAX industry in a keynote speech at the WiMAX Summit in Beijing, November 10-11.
At the WiMAX Summit, Fujitsu will feature a base station communicating with a subscriber station built using the Fujitsu WiMAX reference design kit. The demonstration features video streaming between the two stations, along with web browsing and file transfer (using FTP) over systems built using the company's industry-leading WiMAX SoC, the MB87M3400. Fujitsu introduced its WiMAX SoC and WiMAX reference design kit in April 2005. The kit incorporates all the needed hardware and software features required for enabling designers to develop WiMAX-compliant base station and subscriber station equipment.
Keith Horn, senior vice president of marketing and sales at Fujitsu Microelectronics America, will speak on the company's leading role in developing WiMAX-based Broadband Wireless Access systems, focusing on the underlying semiconductor technology that will fuel the adoption and success of WiMAX worldwide.
Horn's presentation, "The Semiconductor Technology Fuels WiMAX Success: Providing WiMAX System Solutions Utilizing the New IDM Business Model," will focus on Fujitsu's highly integrated WiMAX-compliant baseband SoC, which lets systems and equipment manufacturers achieve WiMAX certification and deliver interoperable products this year.
Keith also will discuss the company's new IDM Business Model, which enables Fujitsu to provide development, design and production services for its WiMAX customers. In addition, the presentation analyzes how Fujitsu can expand the global WiMAX implementation effort by providing state-of-the-art WiMAX technology.
A founding and board member of the WiMAX Forum™, Fujitsu has had a long commitment to the WiMAX standard. With strong partnerships and close collaborations with innovative systems developers, and historical expertise in IC design and development, Fujitsu is well-positioned to lead this exciting new standards-based technology.
