Data encryption without performance loss ETERNUS DX S2 Disk storage systems

January 17, 2012

Support for hardware encryption based Self Encrypting Drives (SED) and firmware encryption (by LUN) are now standard on ETERNUS DX80 S2/DX90 S2 entry-level disk storage systems and ETERNUS DX400 S2 series mid-range disk storage systems (*Note1).
SED use hardware encryption and place no load on the system firmware.

*Note 1: AES: Advanced Encryption Standard

In addition, large-capacity, low-cost 2.5" Nearline 1TB/7,200 rpm disk drives and 400 GB SSD (Solid State Drives) with the highest in access speeds are also supported (*Note 2).
2.5" and 3.5" online disk drives, Nearline disk drives, and SSD can be selected as required. Similar form factor devices can also be mixed in the same drive enclosures (*Note 3).

*Note 2: ETERNUS DX8700 S2 enterprise disk storage systems, released in November, 2011, also support this function.
*Note 3: 2.5" and 3.5" form factor disk drives cannot be mixed in the same drive enclosure.
