Fujitsu and Oracle jointly developed a high-speed database solution - Storage performance improvement verified at up to 2.4 times using Database Smart Flash Cache technology -

A high-speed database solution has been developed as a result of a joint verification by Fujitsu and Oracle Corporation Japan.

With the systemization in recent years of many of business operations, data growth has become large and continuous. The result has been an increase in system performance issues. Similarly, service degradation is being felt in on-line transaction processing (OLTP) systems, due to limited database server capacity.

To avoid such OLTP performance degradation, data can be allocated in more dispersed patterns. But that means many additional HDDs, high levels of expertise, and large additional costs.

In this verification, Fujitsu's ETERNUS disk storage systems using Solid State Drives (SSDs), SPARC Enterprise UNIX servers for the process operations and performance testing, and the high-speed technology "Database Smart Flash Cache" available with Oracle Database 11g Release 2, were used in combination.

The results showed an up to 2.4 times improvement in OLTP performance compared with using traditional HDDs. This highlights the effective use of SSD in ETERNUS disk storage systems as large-capacity database cache. It also shows the ability to improve performance and more easily achieve system cost optimization.

Using two Fujitsu SPARC Enterprise M3000 units, a 2-node Oracle Real Application Clusters was configured using Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise Edition

Verification location

This verification was the first to be performed at the “SPARC Enterprise - Oracle Database Solution Development Center”. A new virtual facility, it utilizes capabilities at both Fujitsu's Platform Solution Center and Oracle's GRID Center to support detailed validation testing of combined SPARC Enterprise and Oracle solutions. This innovative facility was co-established by Fujitsu and Oracle Corporation Japan and opened in March 2010.
