CABINET on Monday approved the award of a contract to install a computerised land registration and parcel data management system that is expected to reduce the delivery time for new land titles from 30 days to eight days.
The contract, valued at US$1.3 million, has been awarded to Fujitsu ICL (Jamaica) Limited and is funded by the World Bank. Fujitsu will provide equipment, training and services over a seven-month period, Information Minister Burchell Whiteman said yesterday.
"This system will facilitate the provision of an efficient and transparent land titling, surveying and mapping service including integration with an existing computerised land valuation operations," Whiteman told reporters during a briefing yesterday of Cabinet's decisions.
He noted that the new computerised operation would result in a "more foolproof system of checks and balances, thus assisting in reducing the incidence of fraud."
