Mullings welcomes launch of Fujitsu’s Hosted Email Service

Excerpt from the Sunday Observer - April 27, 2008

Fujitsu, the international technology firm, has unveiled its new Hosted E-mail Service to senior executives of Jamaica’s public and private sector organizations, as a part of its Managed Communications and Collaboration portfolio.

Minister of energy, mining and telecommunications, Clive Mullings, was among the large turnout at an Executive Breakfast to launch the new service recently at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.

Mullings noted that e-mail was one of today’s most efficient means of communicating and highlighted that it was critical for businesses to maintain a reliable e-mail infrastructure.

“There is a growing need to maintain electronic communication with associates and partners wherever they may be, and Fujitsu’s Hosted E-mail Service addresses this,” he said.

“The e-mail infrastructure that you are going to be driving is critical because it is going to mean that there will be a greater flow, greater exchange, so that in very short order, we will find that we are able to achieve our objectives with minimal effort,” the minister added.

Fujitsu’s Hosted E-mail Service is delivered using the industry-leading Microsoft Exchange platform that provides organizations the full functionality of the Microsoft Exchange/Outlook e-mail without the cost, risk and headache associated with the management and support of their own internal exchange infrastructure.

“This service also provides full e-mail protection with enhanced anti-virus, enhanced anti-spam, encryption and fully compliant e-mail archiving, as well as full mobility support for Blackberries, Active Sync and GoodLink,” said Clive Allen, Fujitsu’s executive vice president, managed & outsourced services.

Widely adopted in North America, this service is reportedly the preferred method by most organizations for delivery of e-mail functionality, a recognition of the importance and costliness of designing and managing their own highly available and reliable e-mail infrastructure.

“This service will simplify the task of IT departments delivering highly available and reliable e-mail and mobility services to their user community without the capital expense and headaches normally associated with doing so,” said Allen. “IT managers can now focus on core competencies by having one less day-to-day function to worry about.”

Fujitsu’s Managed Communications & Collaboration Service provides businesses in the Caribbean, Latin and Central America with highly available, secure and scalable hosted solution for e-mail, mobile messaging, advanced e-mail defence and compliant e-mail archiving in an affordable service model, the company said.
