Japanese-based information and communications technology (ICT) corporation Fujitsu has expressed its heartfelt condolences to those affected by the earthquake which hit the Tohoku (northeast) region of Japan last Friday.
The Fujitsu Group will donate 100 million yen (TT$820,000) and relief supplies to support the rescue and recovery efforts.
In a statement yesterday, Fujitsu Caribbean said the group’s highest priority is helping residents in affected area through the “recovery” of essential services including electricity, water, gas, hospitals, police and fire departments.
Fujitsu has asked customers for their understanding and support at this difficult time, after earthquake-related damage to buildings and production equipment at the main Fujitsu Group Companies in the Tohoku Region.
Fujitsu’s operations in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima were also damaged during last Friday’s earthquake.
In addition, planned rotational electricity blackouts have affected operations of Fujitsu Group companies based in the Kanto region of Japan.
The Fujitsu Group expressed its sincere hopes “for the speediest possible recovery to everyone in the regions affected by this disaster.”
The company is still trying to determine the effect of all this on its profits and said it would make a prompt announcement “should these effects be significant.”
Fujitsu Group serves customers in 70 countries, offering computing and communications products and advanced microelectronics. Headquartered in Tokyo, Fujitsu Limited reported consolidated revenues of 4.6 trillion yen or US $50 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2010.
Fujitsu Caribbean is a wholly owned subsidiary of the US$47 billion Fujitsu Group and a part of Fujitsu America Inc. It has offices in Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad, with agents in the Bahamas, St. Vincent, Haiti, Anguilla, Antigua, Dominican Republic and Grenada.
