Fujitsu Automotive Technologies

Product Selection
Fujitsu's leading-edge embedded semiconductor solutions meet the needs of the automotive industry. With unmatched performance
and reliability, Fujitsu's microcontrollers, FlexRay™ microcontrollers, 1394 controllers and graphics display controllers
are well-suited for many automotive applications.
1394
The Fujitsu 1394 controllers are designed for in-vehicle audio-video multimedia entertainment systems. They connect top-quality video and audio to vehicle displays from their head unit, DVD player, navigation, camera, amplifier or other devices, delivering the ultimate in-vehicle entertainment.
Based on the 1394 networking specification, the controllers incorporate the 1394b PHY and 1394 link in a single chip, along with the digital transmission content protection (DTCP) standard that prohibits unauthorized copying or transmission of protected A/V content. The controller supports IEC61883 AV protocols for smooth audio and video stream playback
The Fujitsu MB88388A is the industry’s first device to support vehicle navigation imaging using the 1394 standard. The controller implements the Fujitsu proprietary SmartCODEC, a video codec specified under the 1394 international standard for in-vehicle video transmission. SmartCODEC, which was developed by Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., can compress and decompress high-resolution video without perceptible latencies in two to three milliseconds, which is much faster than the video frame rate. By combining the MB88388A with the MB88389 IC for 1394-compliant audio, it is possible to realize a high-quality, cost-effective, rear-seat entertainment system.

FlexRayTM MCU

Fujitsu integrates FlexRay™ into its automotive-proven 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers and includes the 16FX family, a new, high-integration, low-power series of 16-bit MCUs, along with the new MB91F465XA FlexRay controller for driver-assistance applications.
Fujitsu has joined with Elektrobit of Finland to develop new MCU drivers for the MB91460 series of 32-bit microcontrollers. The new drivers are compatible with AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System Architecture) release 2.1, and will offer customers a high degree of code reusability and maximum efficiency for application designs.
The first driver is designed for the MB91F467DA dashboard controller, an MCU with a Controller Area Network (CAN) interface. The MB91F467DA is used in automotive instruments panels to drive meter needles and control odometers, trip meters, warning lights and other information displays. The other driver is for the MB91F465XA, a FlexRay 2.1-compatible MCU for sophisticated controls that provide communication speeds up to 10Mbps with high reliability. The AUTOSAR 2.1 specification now encompasses the FlexRay vehicle networking applications, so customers using the Fujitsu Microelectronics MCUs and the new driver can take advantage of the benefits of FlexRay.

Graphics Display Controllers

Fujitsu's new family of graphics display controllers will optimize solutions for embedded graphic applications such as car navigation and mobile information terminals.
The products in this family have numerous functions which are state-of-the-art to graphic controllers today, but have been specially optimized for embedded systems. In addition to video input and many 2D and 3D rendering functions, there is a flexible layer concept, support for screen resolution of up to XGA (1024x768) and additional features which are of particular interest in the area of navigation, such as alpha-blending and anti-aliasing.
Fujitsu is an industry leader in graphics display controllers and recently introduced the first controller with a 32-bit CPU and graphics engine on a single chip. The Fujitsu MB86R01 is a complete system-on-chip designed for high-end, high-volume embedded automotive graphics applications such as on-board and mobile navigation systems, graphical dashboard systems, head-up display (HUD) units, and rear-seat entertainment.
The MB86R01 integrates the powerful 32-bit ARM926EJ-S™ CPU core with the MB86926 Fujitsu high-performance graphics display controller. Built using Fujitsu’s 90nm CMOS process technology, the MB86R01 is optimized for applications requiring maximum CPU performance combined with sophisticated 2D and 3D graphics.
