Video Processing LSIs

Fujitsu's strengths in imaging and video processing can be seen in our market successes in working closely with our customers to provide solutions for digital video cameras, set-top boxes (STB), digital video recorders (DVR), digital TVs, etc.
Our line-up includes leading-edge full High-Definition (HD) H.264 CODEC LSI products that can compress and decompress full HD video (1,920 dots x 1,080 lines) in the H.264 format in realtime. Full HD/SD transcoder can convert from MPEG-2 to the higher compression H.264 format to reduce data storage requirements.
These LSIs and future full HD multi-decoders can be used for video processing in products covering a wide range of fields
from consumer applications such as digital video cameras, hard disk digital video recorders (DVR/PVR), set-top boxes and home
network appliances, to industrial applications such as security cameras and broadcasting equipment.
Roadmap of H.264 LSIs

Transcoder LSI (MB86H52)

Fujitsu's transcoder chip can compress full HD (1,920 dots x 1,080 lines) MPEG-2 video data to H.264 data. The chip, MB86H52, is a transcoder that can compress MPEG-2 video to less than half the data size.
This transcoder product compresses the video data size while maintaining high video quality so it can be used in recording equipment like hard disk recorders, where the recording time can be lengthened by more than 2.5 times. With the expected increase of home network appliances, this product allows transmission of full HD video over narrow bandwidths. Also there are many opportunities to embed this LSI in equipment where the video data size needs to be reduced.
Digital terrestrial broadcasts and digital satellite broadcasts are compressed into the MPEG-2 format and then broadcast. The MPEG-2 format provides high-resolution video. However, f you want to record the video as it is to storage media like a hard disk, the data size is very large, so the recording time is limited.
Focusing on such issues, Fujitsu developed this MB86H52 transcoder LSI that converts MPEG-2 format video data to the H.264
format, which has higher compression. The transcoder functionality is based on the video processing technology of the presently
shipping full HD H.264 CODEC (Encode / Decode) LSI product, MB86H51. Utilizing proprietary high-quality video technology developed
by Fujitsu Laboratories, the new transcoder LSI maintains the quality of the inputted MPEG-2 video data when transcoding to
H.264 format video data.

MB86H51 LSI for full HD.264 video processing

Fujitsu's MB86H51 LSI product can compress and decompress full High-Definition (HD) video (1,920 dots x 1,080 lines) in the H.264 format in realtime. This is the industry's first full HD H.264 High Profile Level 4.0 video processing LSI with memory in one package. This LSI can be used for video processing in products covering a wide range of fields from consumer applications such as digital video cameras, hard disk digital video recorders (DVRs), and home network appliances to industrial applications such as security cameras and broadcasting equipment.
Proprietary video compression algorithms from Fujitsu Laboratories help reduce the processing burden while producing superior image quality. Fujitsu's system memory technologies enable a compact system with low power consumption.
Fujitsu plans to continue to be an industry leader of H.264 video processing LSIs in the future with full HD transcoders and
full HD multi-decoders that can handle various video formats. We will provide customers with video processing LSIs for high-performance
digital equipment.
