Fujitsu’s GlobalSTORE Software Completes Visa’s Payment Application Best Practices Validation
Fujitsu’s Proactive Approach to Data Security Helps Retailers Along the Path to PCI Compliance
Frisco, TX, January 9, 2007 — Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. today announced that its GlobalSTORE version 3.1.1 point-of-sale (POS) software was validated by a security assessor to meet the Visa U.S.A. Payment Application Best Practices (PABP). That means GlobalSTORE conforms to best practices designed to protect sensitive payment card information from being compromised.
Visa’s PABP is designed to help software vendors develop secure payment applications that ultimately assist acquiring financial institutions and their merchant customers to be compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Secure payment applications, when implemented in a PCI-compliant environment, will help minimize the potential for security breaches and compromised card details. Visa’s set of best practices includes principles that protect stored data; suggest the development of secure password features; and elimination of full magnetic stripe or CVV2 data retention.
"Retailers today face increasing pressure to guard their customer data from security breaches, and partnering with the right software vendor ensures protection for a merchant and its customers," said Keith McNamara, senior vice president of software operations at Fujitsu Transaction Solutions. "Fujitsu has long been a leader in point-of-sale standards and the fact that we’ve met Visa’s best practices illustrates our ongoing security strategy that helps retailers adhere to security standards that affect customer data."
PSC, a specialist consulting firm focused on payments and security, assisted Fujitsu through the validation process, providing guidance and counsel as Fujitsu enhanced GlobalSTORE’s data security features.
"PABP validation is a critical step for any serious payment application vendor to undertake, proving that the software meets the criteria established by Visa, a leader in the payments industry, for security of credit card information. We were pleased to work with Fujitsu to help it validate that its software is in conformance with Visa’s Payment Application Best Practices," said Nigel Tranter, a partner at PSC.
