Paul Burel Joins Fujitsu as Self-checkout Strategic Marketing Leader
Former IT Manager from Home Depot to Lead Fujitsu Self-checkout Marketing Strategy
Frisco, TX, November 2, 2006 — Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. has appointed Paul Burel self-checkout strategic marketing leader. He brings more than 20 years experience in engineering, marketing and management.
In his position, Burel will develop go-to-market strategies for Fujitsu’s self-checkout solutions, and lead the solution and partner strategy for the company’s self-checkout line of business. He will report to Peter Wolf, vice president of marketing.
Prior to joining Fujitsu, Burel worked more than 13 years at The Home Depot, most recently serving as senior manager of store operations, where he managed front-end operations for the retailer’s 2,100 stores. He was instrumental in spearheading the high-profile business case for the deployment of self-checkout at Home Depot.
"We are delighted that Paul has joined the Fujitsu team. His experience in implementing self-checkout campaigns will be very valuable as we continue to expand our self-checkout presence," said Wolf. "Paul’s extensive store technology experience and role as a self-checkout evangelist makes him a perfect fit as Fujitsu’s thought leader for self-checkout. The technology continues to gain popularity in the retail industry, and Paul will help us better understand retailers’ needs while we continue to offer the most innovative, easy-to-use self-checkout systems in the industry."
"Fujitsu’s U-Scan family is the best overall self-checkout system in the industry, and I’m excited about making a positive impact on the future of that product line," said Burel. "The rapid expansion of self-checkout to new retail market segments is likely to have profound positive impact on labor productivity, transaction accuracy, security and customer loyalty as it has proven to date in the grocery, super center and specialty retail industries. The company’s Pervasive Retailing™ Framework and integrated technology strategy provides the best vision for retailers to leverage self-checkout and other retail store technology. I look forward to building upon Fujitsu’s self-checkout momentum."
Burel holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Southern Technical Institute, based in Atlanta, as well as management and business leadership studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
