Fujitsu Joins Microsoft's Technical Adopter Program for Windows Workflow Foundation Initiative
Fujitsu to Incorporate WWF in GlobalSTORE POS, Other Applications
Frisco, TX, September 14, 2005 — Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. today announced it will adopt Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Workflow Foundation (WWF) for its GlobalSTORE point-of-sale (POS) and other solution offerings. The announcement was made during the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference in Seattle, Wash.
WWF provides a universally accessible and consistent workflow development environment for the Windows platform and is being made available to third-party ISVs and corporate developers. It is expected to enhance developer productivity, reduce development costs and improve coordination within applications and business processes.
"Windows Workflow Foundation provides the tools and programming model needed to quickly develop Windows-based, workflow applications," said Keith McNamara, senior vice president of software operations for Fujitsu. "It will help us improve time to market and better respond to customer project demands, especially as integration among software components becomes the key to store systems."
Microsoft expects Windows Workflow Foundation to ship in the second half of 2006. Fujitsu plans to incorporate WWF into GlobalSTORE by the third quarter of 2006. GlobalSTORE is a full-featured, customizable POS, cash management and back office application designed for small specialty to large chain retailers. An application framework, GlobalSTORE combines several application development tools into a single, modular point-of-service platform that enables retailers to develop and deploy POS applications faster, at lower cost. It is built on the Microsoft .NET Framework, the programming model for building XML Web services and applications, and is integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio. Fujitsu will incorporate WWF in other applications as well.
