Fujitsu Named Top POS Software Vendor For Hard Goods Retailers
Company's GlobalSTORE Application Rated No. 1 in Recent Industry Report
Frisco, TX, May 31, 2005 — Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. has been named the leading installed point-of-sale (POS) software provider among the largest 250 hard goods retailers in a recently released market study from IHL Consulting Group, a global research and advisory firm specializing in technologies for the retail and hospitality industries.
The report ranked retail POS software vendors based on three primary criteria:
- Total number of vendor accounts among the leading 250 hard goods retailers;
- The estimated number of POS systems running the vendor?s software, based on store count and lanes per store data;
- The retail revenue represented by the vendor accounts.
The report, "Retailers Guide: POS Software for Hard Goods Retailers," by IHL analysts Greg Buzek and Jerry Sheldon, evaluated the top 25 software vendors that have multiple installations among the top 250 hard goods retailers.
"Fujitsu has a long history of solid solutions for both hardware and software," said Greg Buzek, president of IHL Consulting Group. "Their strength in market share has continued to grow with GlobalSTORE by upgrading existing customers and adding several more in the hard goods industry in recent years."
Fujitsu's GlobaSTORE application is a full-featured, customizable POS, cash management and back office platform. Numerous Fujitsu customers have cited the application as being, on average, "40 percent less expensive to own and customize than other solutions." GlobalSTORE has played a significant role in Fujitsu's growth over the past three years, as the company added about 40 new clients to its retail solutions roster. About one-fourth of those new accounts are GlobalSTORE customers, including Best Buy Inc., REI, OfficeMax Inc. and Sears Tire Group, among others.
"Our previous POS system was not easy to use, required an inordinate amount of time for training and could not accommodate the urgent issues we faced with Y2K," said Carol Uyeda, IS senior manager at REI. "GlobalSTORE enabled us to create an intuitive, easy to use POS interface. This allowed us to incorporate procedural business rules and add feature set functionality that provides flexibility as we move forward."
"The IHL report underscores our commitment to understanding our customers' requirements and building those features into current and future releases," said Keith McNamara, senior vice president of software operations for Fujitsu. "We expect to continue to invest in this core competence to create an integrated consumer transaction software framework across all of our strategic offerings."
