Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc.
Sunnyvale, CA and Frisco, TX, August 17, 2004 — Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. and SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL) have teamed to deliver cost-effective, reliable and secure wired and wireless networked solutions for the retail market.
This collaboration is designed to meet retailers' growing need for technology to help reduce costs and achieve differentiation in a highly competitive market.
Fujitsu will work with SonicWALL to deliver comprehensive security with remote management options for VPN-based wide-area and in-store wireless networks. These initiatives will complement Fujitsu's own advanced networking and point of sale (POS) offerings for both new and existing customers.
Retailers are increasingly turning to technology to address the challenges of maintaining customer loyalty, defending margin and cutting costs in a fiercely competitive environment. As part of this trend, stores are also moving away from closed networks to embrace the efficiencies and cost-savings offered by wireless technologies. The growth of VPN-based WANs and deployment of 802.11 devices for mobile POS, data sharing, queue-busting, self-service or back office inventory applications are some of the key factors driving the growing demand for manageable and affordable networked security solutions.
"From our perspective, one of SonicWALL's greatest strengths is its ability to deliver everything a retailer needs for secure and reliable wired or wireless VPN connectivity on a single appliance - in an affordable package," said Doug Wallace, Fujitsu senior vice president, client operations. "Increasingly our customers are venturing into wireless, potentially exposing their networks to security breaches and complicating the management and reporting process. By teaming with SonicWALL, we can assure retailers that their in-store network security will be seamlessly integrated with POS and wireless devices - resulting in stronger security, reduced costs and greater differentiation."
To provide secure VPN capabilities to its customers, Fujitsu will offer SonicWALL appliances and software. These include SonicWALL's TZ and PRO series security gateways, the SOHO TZW, an integrated firewall, VPN and secure wireless access point for smaller networks. SonicWALL's newly launched distributed wireless solution scales to accommodate larger store deployments. This package comprises a gateway security device, SonicPoint intelligent access points, power-over-Ethernet injector and long-range wireless card. Fujitsu will also deploy SonicWALL's Global Management System to provide retailers with remote management options including monitoring, reporting and automatic downloading of code and policy updates from retail headquarters to branches.
Fujitsu's core offerings for the retail market include POS systems and software, mobile and self-service solutions, a complete range of advanced networking services and IT lifecycle management including call center, staging and integration, wiring and installation, project management and on-site maintenance.
"Retailers clearly recognize the importance of adopting in-store technologies to enhance customer service and loyalty, as well as help them manage costs even more aggressively," commented Matt Medeiros, chief executive officer at SonicWALL. "Fujitsu is one of the leading players in retail solutions, and we are delighted to be working with them to meet the exacting needs of this market."
