Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc.
New York, NY, January 12, 2004 — Through its "relentless cost reduction" model and SmartPoS strategies, Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. provides a complete set of retail offerings that dovetail into Microsoft Corp.'s new Smarter Retailing Initiative. Microsoft is introducing the Smarter Retailing Initiative as a comprehensive solutions framework for unleashing the next generation of retail innovation.
Fujitsu's GlobalSTORE point-of-sale software, SmartPoS peripherals and new TeamPoS 2000 M terminal (see separate announcement) are all designed to reduce costs and improve manageability over the lifecycle of technology assets. Fujitsu offerings support an open Microsoft Windows environment, "smart" asset management and other features to help retailers drive down costs, develop competitive differentiation and build personalized relationships with shoppers.
"Fujitsu's offerings epitomize the vision conveyed in Microsoft's Smarter Retailing Initiative," said Brian Scott, general manager, retail and hospitality industry solutions group, Microsoft Corp. "Their solutions not only help retailers be smarter about how they operate - enabling them to drive down costs, but also, they provide the means for getting closer to the consumer - making for a more personalized shopping experience."
Fujitsu's GlobalSTORE application for general merchandise and specialty stores is based on an open Windows platform. It offers modular architecture and rapid-development features for easy customization and maintenance and reduced lifecycle costs. GlobalSTORE is easily integrated with Fujitsu's Corema portfolio of loyalty applications, other store systems, kiosks and in-store mobile computing to help retailers build competitive differentiation.
The company's TeamPoS 2000 M, incorporating the Intel Pentium M processor, and its SmartPoS peripherals feature an electronic intelligence that provides data about the status of the device's use to help retailers manage their IT assets and reduce costs. The TeamPoS terminal also offers Windows XP Embedded to minimize operating system overhead.
"As consumer expectations continue to rise, retailers must match their demands to keep a competitive edge," said Keith McNamara, senior vice president general merchandise and software operations for Fujitsu. "To do so successfully and profitably, retailers must employ a system of cost-cutting technology that yields solid return on investment and recognized benefits to customers. This will enable retailers to achieve the promise of smarter retailing."
