Fujitsu to Discuss Broadband Technologies and Network Convergence at IEEE Wireless Multimedia Conference
Richardson, TX, May 22, 2006 — Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, will discuss "The Role of Emerging Broadband Technologies on the Converged Packet-Based Network" during the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Wireless Multimedia conference in Frisco, Texas. Full details about the event can be found at http://www.cvt-dallas.org/details.htm.
The vision of network convergence toward a consolidated packet-based network has been discussed for years, but is not yet a reality. There are numerous overlay networks based on Internet Protocol (IP), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Frame Relay (FR), Ethernet, SONET, Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and wireless for different services. The evolution toward convergence has been slowed due to economic, technical and regulatory issues. Since service offerings drive network evolution, as more packet-based broadband services are launched and bundled together in service offerings, network convergence becomes a necessity. In this presentation, new emerging broadband technologies such as Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON), WiMAX and pseudowires will be discussed. The presenter will show how these technologies can be integrated to provide a seamless converged wireline and wireless network, and outline the challenges that lie ahead to make the vision of a packet-based network successful.
