Fujitsu to Deliver Keynote Address and Present Ethernet Portfolio at Ethernet Expo 2005 in New York


Richardson, TX, October 10, 2005 — Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, is a super platinum sponsor of Light Reading’s Ethernet Expo 2005 conference, which is being held this week at the Grand Hyatt New York. Fujitsu will present their diverse portfolio of multiservice packet networking solutions, which includes Ethernet over SONET (EoS), Ethernet over Wavelength Division Multiplexing (EoWDM), Carrier Ethernet, and Layer 2.5 aggregation. Highlights of the conference will include an opening keynote address by Dr. Robert M. Metcalfe, MIT Engineer, Ethernet inventor, 3Com founder and Polaris partner, as well as a keynote address from Bill Erickson, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Fujitsu, who will present “Fulfilling the Promise of Ethernet”. Rod Naphan, vice president of business access and data planning at Fujitsu, will discuss multiservice Ethernet access and how a wide variety of Ethernet transport mechanisms are bringing a “universal jack” to the customer. Paul Havala, director of data product planning at Fujitsu, will discuss the recent IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) standard and how carriers can use this advancement for introducing new and innovative services to their customers.

WHO:

Bill Erickson is senior vice president of sales and marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. With over 20 years of experience in the telecom industry, Bill oversees the company’s marketing, sales and services. Bill began his career in 1984 as a member of the technical staff at Bellcore (now Telcordia) where he worked on a variety of projects, including the development of TL1 and SONET requirements. During his career, Bill has held a number of positions including senior manager of operations planning, senior director of access and transport planning, and vice president of product planning. Bill holds a bachelor of science degree in both physics and mathematics from Monmouth University, and a master of science degree in computer science from Stevens Institute of Technology.

Rod Naphan, vice president of business access and data planning at Fujitsu, is responsible for strategic planning and product line management of business access and data product portfolios. Rod has 15 years of telecommunications experience in the design and planning of successful communications equipment. In his career spanning 11 years at Fujitsu, Rod has spent 10 years in the engineering organization in various leadership roles responsible for software and systems engineering, and served as program manager for FLASHWAVE® 4000 product development in North America. Prior to joining Fujitsu, he worked as a software engineer within the SONET transmission division at Nortel Networks in Ottawa. Rod holds a bachelor of applied science degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a master of science degree in system engineering from the University of Waterloo in Ontario.

Paul Havala, director of data product planning at Fujitsu, has over 16 years of experience in the telecom industry and oversees the company’s overall data strategy. Prior to this role, Paul was in technical marketing and was responsible for developing data initiatives for Fujitsu. Paul has held many leadership roles and senior technical positions in key telecom companies such as Bellcore (Telcordia), DSC (Alcatel), White Rock Networks, and Fujitsu in the areas of technical marketing, business development, product planning and management. Paul received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and a master of science degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University.
