From Fingerprints to Palm Veins, Fujitsu to Demonstrate Biometric Technologies at 2005 Biometric Consortium
Company Will Showcase Palm Vein Authentication and Fingerprint Sensor Solutions for Physical & Data Security Applications
Sunnyvale, CA, September 13, 2005 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals, and Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc., an innovative semiconductor products and solution provider serving North and South America, will demonstrate their complementary biometric technologies at the 2005 Biometric Consortium Conference at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va. on September 19-21. On display will be the palm vein authentication device, the MBF200 single touch fingerprint sensor, and the MBF310 Sweep Sensor™ ICs.
Leveraging more than twenty years of industry leading image processing technology, Fujitsu has developed next-generation biometric security products and solutions to meet the anticipated market growth for personal identity authentication for both physical and logical access control. To meet the varied user requirements in sensitive fields such as financial/banking, healthcare and government, the company has identified and addressed the need for biometric solutions that are easy to use, reliable and competitively priced.
Launched on June 30, 2005 in North American markets by Fujitsu Computer Products of America, the new contact-less Palm Vein authentication device captures a person’s palm vein pattern and then verifies it against that individual’s pre-registered vein pattern. Because veins are internal in the body and have an array of differentiating features, attempting to forge an identity is difficult, thereby enabling an extremely high level of security.
Already deployed at leading financial institutions in Asia, the Fujitsu palm vein device has added a new level of security for employees and customers. The results have an extremely high degree of accuracy with a false acceptance rate(1) of less than 0.00008%, while maintaining a false rejection rate of only 0.01%.
At the show, Fujitsu Microelectronics America will showcase two of its award-winning fingerprint authentication technologies, the MBF200 single touch sensor and the MBF310 Sweep Sensor ICs, both of which meet standardized government resolution requirements. The robust, solid-state fingerprint sensors and minutia-based matching algorithms improve the security and convenience of user authentication. The cost-effective sensors provide a quick and reliable alternative to passwords, PINs, keys and other methods of user authentication. Applications include computer and network login, physical access, mobile device security, government ID’s, transport systems and medical records. A wide variety of biometric solutions, including embedded matching systems, USB peripherals and software, are available through Fujitsu partners.
The Biometric Consortium serves as a focal point for research, development, testing, evaluation, and application of biometric-based personal identification/verification technology. For more information, or to see the live product demonstrations, please come by Fujitsu booth #201-202.

Note
- 1 false acceptance rate:
- Fujitsu's internal research resulted in a false acceptance rate of less than 0.00008% and a false rejection rate of only 0.01%. False acceptance rate is a rate at which someone other than the actual person is falsely recognized. False rejection rate is a rate at which the actual person is not recognized accurately.
