Fujitsu Microelectronics America to Deliver a Major Presentation on the 802.16a Standard at Broadband Wireless World Conference in San Jose April 10

Sunnyvale, CA, March 20, 2003 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA), an industry leader in system-on-chip (SoC) technology for the wireless network market, will provide a presentation on the 802.16a standard at the annual Broadband Wireless World Conference at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose.

Aditya Agrawal, senior marketing manager at FMA’s Wireless SoC group, will present “802.16a: The Right Technology in the Right Place᾿ at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 10.

“The advent of the 802.16a specification now provides wireless network suppliers with another powerful technology choice, in addition to the various versions of the 802.11 standard,᾿ said Agrawal. “This presentation will explain where and how each technology fits in the wireless landscape, why 802.16a can fulfill the ‘outdoor’ promise, and how the technologies will work together in the future.᾿

The presentation will also discuss the market gap that 802.16a fills and how it complements, rather than competes with, the 802.11 wireless LAN standard. It will also include a high-level discussion of the major features of 802.16a. Fujitsu is the first silicon vendor to announce its commitment to producing an 802.16a compliant baseband ASSP.

Agrawal is responsible for the Bluetooth, wireless LAN and 802.16a based wireless metro area network (MAN) products at FMA. He is an active member of the IEEE 802.16a standards committee and a board member of WiMAX. In a prior role in Fujitsu, Agrawal managed the design and development of mixed signal LSIs. Before joining Fujitsu in 1997, he worked at Level One Communications and Texas Instruments.

The Broadband Wireless World Conference is the only industry event to focus on fixed wireless access technology in the licensed and unlicensed frequencies. This fifth annual show focuses on fixed broadband wireless access technology and business models; advanced fixed wireless solutions for cellular 3G networks; unlicensed wireless access networks (2.4GHz, 5.8GHz); second-generation, non-line-of-sight solutions; and wireless hot spot networks.
