Fujitsu Microelectronics to Demonstrate Embedded Developers' Kit for Fingerprint Sensors for Automotive Applications at Convergence 2002
Other products at the show include graphics display controller and 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers
Detroit, MI, October 21, 2002 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) will demonstrate a new Embedded Developer's Kit at the Convergence 2002 show this week. The kit, which combines the company's MBF200 solid-state fingerprint sensor IC with Fujitsu's FR family of 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs), is targeted specifically for security-enhanced automotive applications.
The MBF200 has a total area of only 1.28cm x 1.5cm, and features an integrated USB 1.1 interface and a 256 x 300 pixel sensor array. The sensor also includes an Automatic Finger Detect (AFD) circuit that sends a finger-detect interrupt to the host CPU when a finger is placed on the sensor. This capability reduces the CPU overhead operations that are required when the sensor has to be continually polled for the presence of a fingerprint. Along with the sensor, Fujitsu also provides a "minutia-based" matching algorithm with template-to-template match times of approximately 200 microseconds. Example application source code is also provided, allowing quick and easy integration that optimizes time-to-market.
Fujitsu's FR family of 32-bit MCU combines the best features of RISC architecture with functional blocks critical to optimized embedded applications. The series, which was developed for the embedded control market, includes many peripherals typically used in embedded applications such as CAN, a DRAM controller, A/D, Pulse Width Modulations (PWM), timers and Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitters (UARTs).
"Fujitsu continues to supply the automotive market with high-value hardware and software. Using the combination of the MBF200 and the FR MCU creates an excellent solution for automotive applications," said Keith Horn, FMA's vice president of marketing. "The combination capitalizes on the FR's performance and power-down modes along with the MBF200's fingerprint sensor capability and 500-DPI resolution."
The Developers' Kit is available now from Fujitsu Microelectronics America, with prices starting at $2,500.
