Fujitsu Microelectronics Extends 16-bit Microcontroller Family with new MB90340 Series for Automotive Applications

Detroit, MI, October 21, 2002 — The new 16-bit microcontroller series from Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) provides up to two FULL-CAN (Controller Area Network) interfaces and extensive Flash ROM for dashboard, door modules, and other automotive body-control applications.

The 16-bit MB90340 Series, which is being introduced at the Convergence 2002 show in Detroit, is available in several versions. The series, which is built around a 16-bit core processor, features a 4 MHz external clock and 24 MHz internal clock, and up to two FULL-CAN interfaces for automotive designs. The series provides various amounts of flash ROM (up to 384 Kbytes), along with internal voltage regulator support for the MCU core, delivering low EMI and reduced power consumption.

Each version, which also incorporates analog-to-digital converters with up to 24 channels, includes an internal voltage booster that eliminates the need for additional Flash memory programming voltage. The microcontrollers also include DMA, four full duplex UARTs that support LIN protocol, and one or two channels I2C with 400 kilobits baud rate support.

"With this new series, Fujitsu is extending its leadership position in high-end, high-performance, low-power microcontroller products," said Keith Horn, FMA's vice president of marketing. "The MB90340 series provides significant efficiencies and cost-benefits for vehicle applications. This highly integrated MCU includes dual channel CAN, four UART, eight 16-bit programmable pulse generator (timer/PWM), and other features that provide the most efficient design solution for automotive applications."

Pricing and Availability
The members of the 16-bit MB90340 series are available in 100-pin plastic quad flat packs or LQFPs. Prices start at $7.41 each in 10,000-piece units for MB90F347.
