Fujitsu Expands its 32-Bit CAN Bus Microcontroller Family with Two New MCUs, Adds New 16-Bit Version
32-bit MB91F365G and F366G, 16-Bit MB90F394G targeted to auto and industrial applications
San Francisco, CA, March 13, 2002 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America Inc. (FMA) today expanded its extensive microcontroller family, introducing two new 32-bit microcontrollers with FULL-CAN (Control Area Network) bus interfaces and single voltage flash memory, along with a new 16-bit version based on the company’s proven 16LX processor core.
The new MB91F365G meets the requirements of automotive, industrial and other space-constrained, single-chip applications that operate without an external bus interface. These designs typically require two CAN buses, motor control and standard peripheral functions such as diverse serial interfaces, timers, and input-capture/output-compare capabilities.
A second version, the MB91F366G, provides the same basic functionality, resources and pin-out as the MB91F365G, along with a 32kHz clock input for precise real-time clock reference, and a calibration unit in place of a Digital-to-Analog converter.
The new MCUs are built around Fujitsu’s FR architecture, a five-stage pipelined RISC core with 16 general-purpose registers and internal Harvard structure. The core is supported by 16kB data RAM and a bit search unit. Program code and constant data are located within a 512kB embedded flash ROM, which can be programmed in-circuit using a serial link or via parallel programmers. The ROM offers a minimum 10,000 write/erase cycles.
The MCUs integrate a clock modulator unit, which cuts noise by spreading the energy of the IC over a wide frequency range. The clock modulator reduces electromagnetic emission, enabling EMI-approval standards to be easily met the first time without extensive re-designs.
Both devices share the software modules and operating systems with Fujitsu’s MB91360G series microcontrollers, for which libraries are available. The new MCUs are ported for the OSEK operating system, which is now standard for all vehicle-control systems. An on-chip background debug support unit helps development and debugging of final applications with no need for in-circuit emulators.
The MB91F365G and MB91F366G are now available in sample quantities in compact 120-pin QFPs. Prices begin at $19.80 each in 10,000-unit quantities. An evaluation device, the MB91FV360, is also available.
New 16LX Processor at Core of High-Performance, Low-Power MB90F394G
Fujitsu also announced samples of its MB90F394G, which combines the company’s 16LX processor core with a wide range of peripheral
functions. The new device is a member of Fujitsu’s new MB90390G 16-bit MCU series, which features high operating frequencies,
with a CPU cycle time of only 50ns and a high performance/power consumption ratio. The MB90F394G is very efficient with C-Code.
The MB90F394G incorporates a clock modulator circuit to reduce the high noise emission peaks associated with increased CPU frequencies. This feature enhances value in applications like auto dashboard controls, where low EMI emissions must be combined with high performance.
The controller also includes dashboard-specific peripherals, including a sound generator, an 18-bit time-base timer and high current output ports for directly driving six stepper motors. The integrated 384kB to 512kB flash memory macro requires no additional programming voltage and offers a write/erase life of 10,000 cycles.
The timer structure of the MB90F394G includes six channels of programmable pulse generators, six input capture units, eight-channel output compare and six additional PWM channels with slew rate control for the high current output ports. The device, which provides 96 I/Os, interfaces to off-chip peripherals through two full CAN interfaces, one serial I/O and three UARTs, including a special LIN UART.
Samples of the MB90F394G come in 120-pin packages, with prices starting at $9.35 each in 10,000-unit quantities. Hardware and software development tools are available now.
