Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc.
Pittsburgh, PA, November 28, 2004 — Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. (FLA) and PFU Systems, Inc. today announced the introduction of two revolutionary Layer 2 10Gb Ethernet switches in the North American market, the XG800 and XG600. These switches are powered by the MB87Q3070, which is the world's first single-chip, 12-port 10Gb Ethernet switch chip.
The MB87Q3070, which was developed by FLA, is a highly integrated VLSI device that significantly lowers the power and space requirements for high-port density 10Gb Ethernet switch implementations. This switch chip makes the XG800 and XG600 the lowest latency and most compact, affordable and power efficient Layer 2 10Gb Ethernet switches in the market. The XG800 and XG600 will be sold in North America by PFU Systems, Inc., the U.S. unit of PFU Ltd., a Fujitsu group company.
The XG800 and XG600 are capable of a total of 240Gbps throughput in a 12-port configuration, with a port-to-port latency of only 450ns, the lowest latency of any switch on the market. The XG800 can be configured with a variety of optical modules, such as SR, LR, ER and LW XENPAK modules. The XG600 has electrical 10GBASE-CX4 interfaces that can transfer signals over copper cables up to 25 meters, well beyond the industry standard. These features make the XG800 and XG600 suitable for a wide range of applications, such as high-performance computing, server clustering, IP-based storage networks, data centers, campus backbones, and telecom media converters.
"The XG800 and XG600 switches are the most compact, most power efficient and most cost effective Layer 2, 10Gb Ethernet switches in the market today," said Kishan Jainandunsing, vice president business development of PFU Systems, Inc. "These products signify a major leap for 10Gb Ethernet, bringing the technology within reach of mass deployment. Simultaneously, several companies have started to introduce10Gb Ethernet adaptors with optical and electrical (CX4) interfaces."
