New Fujitsu Thermal Printer Unit Targets Medium-volume Kiosks

Cost-effective, all- in-one unit simplifies installation

FTP-629USL series thermal printer

Sunnyvale, CA, April 14, 2008 — Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today expanded its line of thermal printers for kiosk applications with the addition of a 2-inch printer subassembly. The new model offers OEMs a reliable, high-quality printing solution for medium-volume print output.

The FTP-629USL thermal printer integrates an auto cutter capable of full or partial cutting, a USB or Serial RS-232C control board, an automatic paper feed, a paper holder for up to 83mm diameter rolls, and an integrated paper guide, within a horizontal, metal chassis measuring 119.5(w) x 170.5(D) x 104(H)mm. The unit’s double tilt function enhances maintenance for paper jam clearing and thermal head cleaning.

This ultra high-speed printer generates text, graphic characters and 2-D barcodes at speeds up to 200mm per second with 8 dots/mm resolution making it suited for banking, food service, gaming, media and photo kiosk applications. It can also be programmed for variable speeds at 40, 80,125mm per second to conserve power. Its expected thermal head operating life is 100 million pulses or 100km of paper.

The FTP-629USL features a straight paper path with rear loading and auto load features. It accepts thermal ticket stock and receipt paper 60 to 150 microns thick. Built-in detection functions include motor over-current protection, paper-out/near-end, and abnormal thermal head temperature to prevent print interruptions.

The RoHS-compliant FTP-629USL print unit is available immediately. It is priced at $281 in 1000-piece quantities. Delivery is stock to 16 weeks ARO.
