Fujitsu Increases Speed and Life of Ultra-Compact, 3-inch Thermal Printer Mechanism

Sunnyvale, CA, August 20, 2007 — Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today released a 3-inch thermal printer mechanism with an integrated auto-cutter that is fifty percent faster and has twice the operational life of its previous model, the FTP-637MCL401. It is designed for compact, fast print-generating applications such as Point Of Sale terminals, medical and test equipment, and instrumentation.
The new FTP-637MCL601 printer measures 21.8mm (H) x 104.5mm (W) x 42.2mm (D). It uses a newly designed head-drive control to provide a 150mm/sec (5.9 in.; 1,200 dot lines/sec) print speed with 8 dots/mm (200 dpi) resolution.
Fujitsu designed the print head with a continuous print life of up to 100km of paper (100 million pulses) for extended output capability, while the guillotine cutter, with its dedicated motor, is rated at one million full cuts. The printer has an operating temperature range of 0 to +50 degrees C and a platen life of 5,000 open/close cycles.
The printer features a detachable platen/cutter that facilitates integration into a clamshell design for drop-in paper loading. In addition to the device’s compact size, all the component wiring is simplified within a single flex circuit.
The printer handles paper stock from 60-100 micrometers-thick and is capable of printing a variety of text, graphic characters, international fonts, and 2-D barcodes. Users can download Windows® drivers from the website.
Constructed of zinc alloy, the printer features a durable die-cast frame to absorb ESD and withstand vibration and shock. It is supported by available Serial (RS-232C) or USB interface boards offering full programmability.
Available immediately, the RoHS-compliant FTP-637MCL601 printer series is priced at $83.75 each in quantities of 1,000. Delivery is stock to 16 weeks ARO.
