KVM Console Drawer Streamlines Rack Space and System Management

Sunnyvale, CA, October 28, 2002 — Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today released a compact KVM console drawer that saves up to 90% of desktop and/or cabinet space occupied by separate keyboard, mouse, video display, and KVM switch components.
Packaged in a 19-inch wide, 1U-high metal chassis, the new SERVIS Drawer incorporates a 15-inch 1024 x 768 TFT color LCD monitor, an 8- or 16-port KVM switch (expandable to 64 or 256 ports), an 83-key membrane switch keyboard, and a three-button touch pad. When not in use, the display folds down into the heavy-duty rail-mounted, retractable drawer unit that can be locked into place. The entire unit measures 482mm [18.98 in] (W) x 642mm [25.28 in] (D) x 43mm [1.70 in] (H).
According to Bruce DeVisser, Fujitsu Components’ input device product marketing manager, using a flat panel display instead of a CRT with the SERVIS Drawer not only saves significant rack space, but also generates less heat, thus reducing server room cooling costs.
The SERVIS Drawer supports PS/2 and USB interfaces for compatibility with PCs, Sun Blade and Fire series, and UNIX/ IA servers. It also supports on-screen display functionality and hot-key switching.
Available immediately, SERVIS Drawer (FD-1000AT/U) has a manufacturer’s suggested resale price of $3,498.00 for a 16-port unit. A SERVIS Drawer model without the integrated KVM switch (FD-1000AT/U) for Sun or PC/AT machines is also available. It has an MSRP of $1,980.00.
