Fujitsu Takamisawa Begins Production of I/O Connector for Infiniband™ Architecture

San Jose, CA, February 27, 2001 — Fujitsu Takamisawa America, Inc. announced the production availability of its eight- and twelve-pair FCN-260 (D) MicroGiGaCN™ differential connector based on Infiniband architecture for high-speed applications in data and telecommunications convergence (voice, data, video and storage). Pricing for the eight pair, board-mount socket and I/O plug with backshell is $12.00 in 10K-piece quantities.
Utilizing a 2.5 Gbit/sec wire speed connection with four or twelve wire link widths, the MicroGiGaCN offers a scalable performance range of 500MB/second to 6GB/second per link that meets the needs of both entry-level and high-end enterprise systems. Forward crosstalk is less than 4% at 100 pico second pulse-rise time (four-pair switching).
The InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) recently selected the MicroGiGaCN as the standard input/output (I/O) connector for InfiniBand's 4x and 12x I/O interface. In this capacity, the MicroGiGaCN provides a common I/O implementation that delivers a channel based, switched fabric technology that the entire industry can adopt.
"The delivery of volume components for InfiniBand architecture such as Fujitsu's connector is critical for the implementation of InfiniBand fabrics," said Jim Pappas, Director of Initiative Marketing for Intel's Enterprise Platform Group. "We look forward to working with Fujitsu in the delivery of interoperable InfiniBand products."
In a distributed computing environment, the InfiniBand Architecture improves the balance between processor speeds and I/O performance by offering a unique solution that benefits a wide range of industry participants from components vendors and systems suppliers to storage and networking communications firms. Ultimately, end-users receive the greatest benefit through improved price/performance, greater flexibility and scalability, and more reliable and manageable data centers.
The MicroGiGaCN is also currently a finalist in the EDN 2000 Innovation of theYear Awards Competition that honors outstanding engineering products in the electronics industry.
