Fujitsu Consulting Salutes Canada’s National Defence Department Victory at Prestigious IT Awards Gala
Montreal, QC, November 14, 2004 — As part of the 12th annual Canadian Information Productivity Awards (CIPA) gala held in Toronto last week, the Army Lessons Learned Knowledge Warehouse (LLKW) project developed by Fujitsu Consulting in collaboration with DRDC Valcartier, came away with the evening's highest distinction: the Diamond Award of Excellence. CIPA, which recognizes those Canadian organizations that have implemented innovative IT projects of particular excellence, is the largest awards gala of its kind in Canada.
"The greatest challenge related to this project was for us to think like designers," explains Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Voss at ALLC. "It wasn't a matter of simply computerizing our pens. We needed to change our entire approach to how we acquire, analyze, disseminate and manage knowledge."
During the evening, the LLKW project took Silver and Gold in the category Efficiency and Operational Improvements, before capping the night's events with the Award of Excellence. Fittingly, Canadian Forces' Lieutenant-Colonel Jacques Hamel was also named CIO of the year.
CIPA was not the LLKW project's first award however. In April 2004, it won an Octas in the category E-learning and Knowledge Management. LLKW is an innovative, broad-based Web application that allows the Canadian military personnel to access knowledge in real-time, to share observations gathered during peacekeeping missions, to react more quickly on the basis of that information and to benefit from on-line training. The system encourages the Army to act in a pro-active manner when faced with problematic situations.
