Fujitsu Consulting
Calgary, AB, June 3, 2004 — Fujitsu Consulting and the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) today announced an innovative partnership that will facilitate the replacement of the Board’s aging library information system with a state-of-the-art Integrated Media System (IMS). The agreement, valued at $2.2 million over five years, will make it possible for K-12 students, teachers and parents of the city’s public school system to access library holdings, licensed databases and education-content websites, from school or home.
By utilizing an Application Service Provider (ASP) model to deliver the IMS, Fujitsu Consulting, in partnership with Bell Canada and Sagebrush Corp., will offer the CBE a cost-effective service strategy whereby the school board pays for the IMS based on overall system use. The ASP model has the advantage of being scalable to meet the future needs of the CBE without large up-front capital investments for application development, integration services and infrastructure upgrades.
By initiating this process and serving as the initial client for the innovative, state-of-the art IMS service and assisting Fujitsu Consulting's design work, the CBE benefits from being one of the first K-12 school systems in Canada with an advanced capability to access and utilize information that is valuable to educators and students alike.
Fujitsu partners in the CBE agreement include Bell Canada, who will provide the infrastructure services, and Sagebrush Corporation, who will provide industry-leading K-12 library information systems. As part of the agreement, Fujitsu Consulting and its partners intend to market the IMS ASP model to school boards throughout Canada.
“This is a great opportunity for the Fujitsu Consulting team to utilize powerful information technology to enhance the learning experience,” stated John Rose, president and CEO of Fujitsu Consulting, North America. “Every consultant looks forward to projects that have a lasting and positive impact and the IMS system promises to provide far-reaching benefits not only in Calgary but to students and educators everywhere.”
“We are very excited by this partnership, and the tremendous potential the project has for our school communities,” said Lynn Nishimura, Board Chair, Calgary Board of Education. “We recognize the importance of integrating technology and learning. This will certainly provide an enormous springboard for our students.”
