Fujitsu is the leader in developing and manufacturing SONET equipment for North America. The increasing demand for Fujitsu SONET products led to the construction of an $80 million telecommunications center - the first to be built outside Japan by Fujitsu - for additional manufacturing, planning, research and development, and customer support.
Fujitsu develops the first OC-48 product in United States.
Fujitsu surpasses $1 billion in SONET sales revenue.

Fujitsu introduces seamless multiservice data capabilities that allow existing networks to transition to an efficient packet infrastructure. Revolutionary upgrade to market-leading FLASHWAVE 4500 MSPP brings scalable switching solution to telecom, MSO and wireless transport networks. New versions of the FLASHWAVE 7500 ROADM lower cost of carrier-grade DWDM networks.
Leading analyst firms name Fujitsu the market leader in overall optical transport and sub-segments SONET/SDH and metro DWDM/ROADM, the two fundamental building blocks of next-generation networks. Generation-skipping enhancements to FLASHWAVE 7500 ROADM solidify metro DWDM dominance. Fujitsu Network Communications honored by SBC as outstanding supplier for second year in a row.
Fujitsu positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant in their new “Magic Quadrant for Next-Generation SONET Equipment, 2006” report based on the market-leading FLASHWAVE 4000 MSPP portfolio.
