Fujitsu’s John Chowdhury to Illustrate the Impact of IoT, Broadband Access and Demand Aggregation in Rural Communities

Fujitsu Network Communications’ Utility Practice Director Will Present at Broadband Communities Summit 2015

Richardson, TX, April 14, 2015

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.’s Utility Practice Director John Chowdhury will present two sessions focused on rural broadband development at the 2015 Broadband Communities Summit. The Summit takes place April 14 – 16, 2015 at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin, Texas. Chowdhury’s panel sessions will occur on Wednesday, April 15 at 2:30 P.M. CDT and Thursday, April 16 at 12:30 P.M. CDT.

There is enormous potential for the Internet of Things (IoT) to fundamentally change the way rural communities operate.  IoT will allow for unprecedented collection and analysis of data, which can then be used to improve reliability of critical infrastructure. This improved visibility and efficiency will be an enormous benefit to rural communities, and will enable better, and more vital, connected communities in the future.  However, ubiquitous broadband is central to making all of this happen. Mr. Chowdhury will discuss the impact of IoT on rural communities, and what is required to make broadband access a part of the future.

“It’s widely recognized that telecommunications services and infrastructure play a critical role in economic transformation, sustainability and social well-being,” Chowdhury said. “IoT and demand aggregation are two of the most powerful mechanisms that can be used in local communities today to fund and monetize broadband deployments in rural areas.”

To create an environment in which rural communities can ensure broadband access, careful consideration must be given to customer demographics and projected use of broadband.  Demand aggregation is one way to achieve this, and has been used by municipalities to drive new broadband investment while reducing capital requirements and construction costs. Demand aggregation helps to size up the entire communities’ overall usage requirements for broadband service connectivity, and utilizes its findings to determine the viability of the deployment. Mr. Chowdhury will demonstrate how you can use demand aggregation to help analyze your ROI for Fiber-to-Home (FTTH) network projects.

Chowdhury brings decades of experience working with North American and South American energy companies as they seek to modernize the electric grid. He helps these organizations meet new demands for scalability, reliability, security and standards compliance. Over the years, Chowdhury has drawn on his deep experience to provide utilities and municipalities guidance in the areas of FTTH deployment, Smart Grid/AMI/distribution automation, business case development, and ongoing management and maintenance of networks.
