Fashion Retailer Comark Deploys Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS System

Systems Deliver Increased Reliability, Significant Energy Savings and Reduced Maintenance Costs

Fujitsu Canada, Inc.

Mississauga, ON, October 14, 2009

Fujitsu today announced that Comark, one of Canada’s leading specialty fashion retailers, has upgraded its point-of-sale (POS) infrastructure with Fujitsu TeamPoS® 3000 XL2 POS systems, utilizing a full range of Fujitsu services, including project management, staging and installation. Featuring the Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor, the new Fujitsu systems offer Comark increased reliability, significant energy savings and reduced maintenance costs, resulting in lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

News Highlights

  • The TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS system is based on the dual-core Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor (single-core option available). By implementing the mobile version of the dual-core processor, Fujitsu offers retailers powerful processing in a POS system that is up to 40 percent more energy efficient than desktop architecture.
  • The TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS system offers the advantage of laptop components, such as hard drives, that are shock-resistant and ruggedized for the retail environment.
  • The TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS system features zero-ventilation side clearance. The systems have no side or back ventilation slots that require extra space, allowing systems to be installed flush against a back or side wall, maximizing valuable retail counter space.
  • The TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS system satisfies Comark’s requirement for a green solution. The systems offer the industry’s best energy efficiency and adhere to ROHS and WEEE standards.
  • Comark is taking advantage of the Fujitsu Retainer Plus service maintenance program, which is redefining the systems maintenance contract in the retail industry. The Fujitsu Retainer Plus program offers incentives for retailers to collaborate with Fujitsu in order to reduce redundant and low-value service activity, thus lowering maintenance costs.
  • Because the system supports Comark’s Java-based POS software, it allows the retailer the ability to implement applications to increase employee productivity and enhance the customer experience.
  • Deployment took place between May and Sept. of 2009.

QUOTE

Jim Webster, Director of Information Technology at Comark:
"When we looked for a highly reliable, high-quality platform to replace our aging POS hardware, the Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS system stood out for its flexibility, serviceability, energy efficiency and support for diverse peripherals. With the Fujitsu Retainer Plus maintenance contract, we anticipate that we will be able to reduce downtime and drive down our TCO. In addition, the system supports our new Java-based POS software and will give us the ability to consider future applications to increase employee productivity and enhance the customer experience. Our use of Fujitsu Professional Services to manage the POS implementation was a big factor in our being able to complete the rollout on the exact schedule date with minimum disruption in our stores."

Peter Sciberras, Industry Vice President, Retail and Enterprise Solutions,
Fujitsu Canada, Inc.:

"Like so many retailers today, Comark found that the Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS system and the Fujitsu Retainer Plus maintenance program solved a significant challenge: the need to update its technology in order to maintain competiveness, but also the demand for a truly cost-effective solution that would contain costs over the long run. Fujitsu is committed to continuing to lead the industry in delivering solutions to meet these two critical retailing requirements."
