Fujitsu to Unveil GlobalSTORE PRF at NRF 2008

Advanced POS software speeds deployment and improves usability

Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. today announced its latest version of point-of-sale (POS) software – GlobalSTORE PRF. Available immediately, the software application will be demonstrated in booth #1613 at the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) 97th Annual Convention & Expo, Jan. 14-15, 2008.

The new GlobalSTORE PRF application offers users an optimized visual interface and provides retailers additional flexibility to configure the system to meet their specific business requirements and enable faster implementation. Fujitsu’s GlobalSTORE application is a full-featured, customizable POS and store back-office solution.

GlobalSTORE is designed to exploit the benefits of simplicity and scalability offered by the service-oriented architecture (SOA) in the Pervasive Retailing™ Framework (PRF). Fujitsu’s Pervasive Retailing Framework is based on the same architectural foundation as GlobalSTORE. The framework itself is open and can be used to integrate applications and functions from other vendors. It allows multiple functions in the store and across the enterprise to work together in real-time, without requiring major modifications to existing systems.

Key features of GlobalSTORE PRF include:

Advanced User Interfaces – The redesigned user interface is built on the Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), which enables richer control, design and development of the visual aspects of the application. This technology helps Fujitsu's Human Factors engineering group design components that deliver easy-to-use interfaces, for use by store associates, based on end-user best practices. The net benefit realized by retailers is faster training times for store associates and quicker checkout times for consumers. By continuing to focus on improving the user experience (for both store associates and consumers) retailers can realize lower operating costs associated with customer service and greater customer loyalty.

Simplified Integration – The platform for the new application is built on the Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), the first unified programming model for rapidly building service-oriented applications. This framework is at the heart of GlobalSTORE's service-oriented architecture, and enhances traditional POS capabilities by providing a platform that more easily integrates with other software applications and third-party devices. One example of this improved third-party integration is AJB Software's FiPay payment processing solution. Retailers who use the AJB FiPay system will have lower initial implementation costs because of the simplified integration features available through WCF.

The new POS software builds upon the following benefits of GlobalSTORE:

  • Integrated to Fujitsu CustomerCENTER – GlobalSTORE’s seamless integration with Fujitsu’s CustomerCENTER loyalty software speeds the deployment of CRM capabilities and helps retailers better manage customer profiles, loyalty program details, promotional campaigns and analysis in real-time to cultivate customer loyalty.
  • Easy to Customize and Maintain – Built on a service-oriented architecture (SOA) within the application, GlobalSTORE is easy to customize, maintain and integrate, which lowers a retailer’s total cost of ownership.
  • Global Capabilities – Based on the Microsoft Windows platform, the flexibility of Fujitsu’s retail-specific, modular architecture has enabled GlobalSTORE to be deployed at leading retailers in more than 30 countries around the world.
  • Enhanced Data Security – GlobalSTORE has been validated by a payment security assessor to meet the Visa U.S.A. Payment Application Best Practices, which means that GlobalSTORE conforms to best practices designed to protect sensitive payment card information from being compromised.
  • Extensive Promotion Capabilities – With more than 350 built-in promotion formats and unlimited custom promotion capabilities, GlobalSTORE makes it easy to support and execute sophisticated promotions.
