Fujitsu invests in Innovation with new Research Center in Spain

London and Madrid, June 09, 2015 Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe Ltd. announces the establishment of a new research and development center based in Madrid, investing initially in the region of €5M to support a wide range of research and innovation activities across Spain. This major new initiative on the part of Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe is another step towards fulfilling Fujitsu’s objectives of ensuring that its research and innovation expertise is available to support Fujitsu businesses and customers at a regional level.

Working in close partnership with Fujitsu in Spain, Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe has initiated a number of significant projects with prominent institutions and local government organizations. For example the University of Seville and the Foundation for Biomedical Research of San Carlos Clinical Hospital have been active contributors to proof of concept developments. These include a significant heritage data integration project, and a value-based healthcare system to aid clinical decision-making through the provision of integrated services via health informatics, both of which are being demonstrated at the Fujitsu Innovation Gathering 2015. The success of these collaborations is a key driver for establishing the new Data Analytics Research Center in Spain. By continuing to work closely with Fujitsu and its partners in Spain, Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe will gain important insights into the local market and regional needs. This will enable it to accelerate the transformation of innovation into cutting-edge solutions suitable for delivery to customers by Fujitsu Group companies. Collaborations with academia and other centres of expertise will also play a key role in the activities of the new branch office.
