Driving change to increase efficiency

ENABLED BY FUJITSU
The Department for Work and Pensions turned to Fujitsu to help update and centralise its core back office functions, with one of the largest Oracle e-Business Suite implementations in the world. It’s enabled the move to a new Service Delivery Model offering significant efficiency gains and cost savings.
Driving change to increase efficiency
The UK’s Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) employs more than 100,000 staff to promote opportunity and independence to all UK citizens, through modern, customer-focused services. In order to respond to key government strategies, DWP was looking to rollout a ‘Resource Management’ programme that would enhance efficiency and effectiveness across the entire organisation.
As a result, DWP chose Oracle’s e-business suite (a fully integrated, comprehensive suite of business applications) and turned to Fujitsu to implement, host and manage the solution. The new system has enabled DWP to replace a range of bespoke systems and many clerical activities – supporting the organisation’s new Service Delivery Model, which is focused on providing self-service for all staff.
Back office functions such as finance, payroll, HR and procurement have now been centralised and consolidated across the various departments within DWP – and are accessed by staff as a shared service. With a single, real-time source of management information, DWP can identify and target cost savings as well as enjoy greater efficiency, flexibility and control.
Business benefits
- Increased efficiency – processes are now streamlined and fully integrated, with significantly less manual intervention required.
- Cost savings – the enablement of cross-departmental purchasing has provided lower costs through economies of scale.
- More productivity – staff can now access and share all information needed for back office tasks more quickly.
- Reduced staff overheads – the provision of self service functionality has reduced the amount of administrative support needed.
- Improved decision-making – consolidated information has resulted in improved analysis, reporting and visibility across the department.
- Simplified support – system support and maintenance is easier and more cost effective.
