'One step' to Microsoft Office Project Server 2003

Most companies recognise that to survive and prosper they need to work smarter, and improving the way they manage projects is a good place to start. The challenge for any organisation is to develop a structured approach to reduce the cycle time of projects and to increase the amount of projects able to be completed.

The Business Challenge

The ever increasing demand for managing projects effectively provides challenges for us all:

  • Completing projects on time and on budget
  • Estimating projects better - tracking metrics
  • Managing Resources - scheduling and skills management
  • Collaboration and Participation - identify issues and risks

The Solution

Fujitsu has developed its 'One Step' to Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 service to help organisations manage projects quickly and cost-effectively. This key platform helps:

  • Provide visibility of work across your organisation for better analysis and decision-making - This allows you to evaluate and model schedules, resources, and cost data over time and projects. Identifying trends and addressing problem areas
  • Improve the management of work through establishing repeatable processes and optimising resources across your organisation - This allows you to effectively assign people to projects, with skill-based resource assignment tools. To forecast resource requirements to take on future projects and improve project management processes by establishing standards and best practice initiatives
  • Enhance information-sharing and coordination to empower team members to participate in projects, report progress and collaborate on projects - This allows you to reduce administrative work while maintaining accurate status on project schedules, to improve co-ordination across teams through portals and automated notifications, and to collaborate effectively with document management capabilities such as check-in or check-out and versioning

Solution Overview

We will work with you on what is typically a three- or four-week engagement to implement a Project Server solution focused on delivering achievable benefits to the organisation and a rapid return on investment.

Fujitsu consultants will work with business users and key stakeholders to identify all user scenarios for content contribution, publishing processes and overall project management. The discovery and documentation is then used to form the basis for the most effective Microsoft Project 2003 implementation.

Design

Our consultants will prototype a solution on the new platform, building on the discovery and useability work. The engagement will produce the following deliverables:

  • Introductory workshop - We gather information regarding current project practices, identifying sources of information and working with potential users to define working best practices and scenarios
  • Installation and Configuration - In a development environment, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft SQL Server 2000,Windows SharePoint Services (WSS), Microsoft Project Server 2003 and Microsoft Project Web Access are all installed and configured. All required Service Packs and patches are also applied. Microsoft Project Professional 2003 is set up for all required clients
  • Documentation and Testing - Documentation of the technical implementation for the prototype and all testing is conducted and completed
  • Deployment - Once testing is completed Microsoft Project Server 2003 is deployed and there is ongoing review and planning to develop best-practice project management
