The Controlled Environment Vault (CEV)
In 1992, Cable and Wireless Optus commissioned Fujitsu to design and develop the Controlled Environment Vault (CEV) to house and protect its fibre optic and digital microwave radio transmission equipment.
Fujitsu has since developed design of the CEV into its sixth generation. This ongoing development has ensured that the system is low cost, both initially and over the course of its entire life.
The CEV is designed to provide a controlled or stable environment for the equipment that it houses. It is available in three or six metre steel containers that have been environmentally hardened, and therefore able to withstand the extremes of weather and human tampering.

Type 6 CEV
The walls and door of the CEV are armour plated, providing bulletproof protection. The container itself has clean, smooth lines, and is painted in neutral colours. External walls are insulated to minimise the effect of high temperatures and solar radiation.
The CEV is entirely configurable to specific customer requirements. In addition to transmission equipment, it can accommodate radio and mobile base station equipment (including GSM), as well as digital loop carrier systems for direct termination of customer premise equipment.
Fujitsu can provide complete internal design and fit-out for CEVs. This includes the AC and DC power systems, back-up power, environmental cooling, racking and cable management, lighting and remote management systems.
The experience gained from our partnership with Cable and Wireless Optus means that the Fujitsu CEV incorporates all the features required in any customer-specific environment, in the most cost-effective manner.
