Rod Vawdrey. CEO Fujitsu Australia & New Zealand

From the CEO
Leveraging our global expertise

You may have seen recent reports that Fujitsu has appointed Ted Pretty as Non-executive Chairman of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand. As part of his introduction to the company, Ted accompanied me to Fujitsu Forum in Japan in May and was, like all our guests, amazed by the sheer depth and breadth of Fujitsu’s expertise and offerings.

Ted’s observations from Japan included the depth of Fujitsu’s industry expertise in areas such as health and retail, the organisation’s focus on innovation as well as Fujitsu’s commitment to expanding and supporting its operations outside of Japan.

Fujitsu’s commitment to overseas expansion is demonstrated in the recent acquisition of Rapidigm, a large US-based information technology and consulting firm with more than 1,000 consultants and three development centres in India and their ambitious plans for expansion in the next two years. In Europe, Fujitsu Services has been very successful, recently reporting record results for FY2005. This success has been bolstered by the work we are doing with the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK as part of the NHS’s National Programme for IT. Leveraging the work Fujitsu has done globally, in this month’s interaction, Jeff Smoot, Health Industry Director, Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, shares his views on the health industry in Australia and why he believes IT projects in health must be viewed as business transformation projects.

We’ve also included an article from Fujitsu Services about Quickphone, the UK’s first mobile phone vending machine which was developed in conjunction with Vodafone UK.

While we are proud of our local independence, demonstrated in the appointment of a local board and Chairman from Australian industry, we also believe there is great opportunity to leverage the work we have done with customers overseas for the benefit of our customers in Australia and New Zealand. I hope you enjoy this month’s interaction and look forward to bringing more global stories to you in the future.
