Fujitsu partners with Foxboro Transportation for KCRC East Rail Network

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Sydney, October 29, 2002

Fujitsu Australia will partner with Brisbane-based Foxboro Transportation to supply a state-of-the-art communications solution to one of Hong Kong's busiest rail networks, the Kowloon Canton Rail Corporation's (KCRC) East Rail Network.

Foxboro Transportation has been selected by KCRC to upgrade the Integrated Control and Communications System (ICCS) for the East Rail network extension. Fujitsu has been selected by Foxboro Transportation to supply its robust and reliable SDH multiplexer equipment for the fibre optic transmission system to all stations. The SDH network will be remotely monitored and managed by Fujitsu's network management system from a centralised control room.

The safety- and mission-critical monitoring and control of this high-speed train network depends on the reliable operation of Fujitsu's FLX150A multiplexer at each station providing the SDH backbone for all communications to the ICCS.

"It's encouraging to see that even in these difficult times, major projects and investments are still occurring in the region. We are pleased to be associated with Foxboro Transportation, a world leader in rail communication and control technology. Fujitsu Australia was chosen as a supplier not only because of its highly reliable equipment but also its extensive experience in delivery of SDH solutions," said Brian Murphy, General Manager Telecommunications, Fujitsu Australia Limited.

"Foxboro Transportation is pleased to welcome Fujitsu on board as a key part of the team delivering these works. The suitability of the technology was obviously an important selection factor for us but it is the coordinated and cohesive team that will really make the difference. I look forward to our teams forgoing a solid partnership, positioning us well for future opportunities together," said Phil Ellingworth, General Manager, Foxboro Transportation.

Foxboro Transportation will pre-assemble all ICCS infrastructure in Brisbane before it is shipped to Hong Kong. The Fujitsu SDH equipment will be supplied in Q1 of 2003, and as part of the contract, Fujitsu will provide detailed engineering training to Foxboro Transportation.
