Fujitsu invests in high-end Internet Data Centre

Fujitsu Australia Limited

Sydney, April 05, 2002

Fujitsu Australia Limited today announced the multi-million dollar purchase of a premium, 7,000 square metre Internet Data Centre (IDC) from Exodus Communications Australia Pty Limited. The acquisition of the Sydney facility will extend Fujitsu's data centre capability to include carrier-independent, high-bandwidth Internet access with advanced capabilities within a secure, highly resilient environment.

"Fujitsu is making a significant investment in this area to ensure our customers have cost-effective and reliable access to premium infrastructure and service solutions capable of supporting their corporate goals," said Fujitsu Australia CEO, Phil Kerrigan.

Mr Kerrigan said the company had identified hosted and managed IT Infrastructure as a major growth area. Gartner recently forecast a compound annual growth rate for 2001-2005 of 28.2 per cent for Internet Data Centre revenues.

"The capital investment required to establish and maintain facilities such as this is beyond the scope of most businesses. Fujitsu's push to offer a managed solution gives customers access to world-class infrastructure with state-of-the-art security and data integrity, an approach that is attractive both to start up companies and large enterprises seeking to leverage the Web to sell products and services online."

The purpose-built IDC combines a high level of redundancy and fail-over capability with the capacity to cater for rapid growth in demand, and complements Fujitsu's existing data centre services which provide service level management 24 hours a day seven days a week 365 days a year. Together with a full range of professional services, Fujitsu can deliver to customers an end-to-end managed service. "We believe the key to our future success as an end-to-end service provider will be our ability to offer the right mix of technology and services that delivers demonstrable value to our customers," Mr Kerrigan said.

"Businesses today need far more than a simple technology solution - they want a tailored offering that combines infrastructure, applications, expert services and the sort of aggregated purchasing power that only a company of Fujitsu's size and scope can offer."

Mr Kerrigan pointed to Fujitsu's long and impressive track record in managing data centres and providing a diverse range of services to maximise the benefits for customers who chose managed solutions, such as hosting and connectivity, as part of their IT infrastructure.

"Our proven strength and experience in IT infrastructure management and related service delivery provides a comprehensive business solution that meets our outsourcing customers' entire hosting requirements.

"We're also planning to introduce additional services such as storage on demand as part of our strategy to offer customers a complete solution to support their online requirements."
