Fujitsu equips Dynegyconnect for aggressive expansion into bandwidth trading market

More than 100 high-capacity FLASHWAVE(tm) OADX systems to be used as critical component of first nationwide optically switched data network

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.

USA, March 09, 2001

Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. today announced an agreement with Dynegyconnect, L.P., a subsidiary of Dynegy Inc. (NYSE: DYN), to deploy its FLASHWAVE OADX for its long haul network. Dynegyconnect, L. P. is a joint venture of Dynegy Inc. and Telstra Corp. Ltd.

Fujitsu's FLASHWAVE OADX is the world's largest capacity dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) equipment, capable of transmitting 1.76 terabits per second over vast distances -- without regeneration.

Dynegyconnect is developing the first nationwide optically switched data network that will consist of approximately 20,000 route miles and more than 40 points of presence with over 100 FLASHWAVE OADX systems by the fourth quarter of 2001. The network will support private line, ATM and IP services with circuit sizes of OC-3, OC-12, OC-48 and OC-192. Under the terms of the agreement, Fujitsu will install, deploy and provide network management services for FLASHWAVE OADX.

"Our strategy is to establish mutually efficient and beneficial business relationships with industry leaders such as Fujitsu," says Mark Stubbe, president and chief operating officer of Dynegyconnect, L.P. "Fujitsu's high-channel density and Optical evolution plan positions our network to accommodate rapid expansion of cost-effective services to our customers."

"As Dynegyconnect strives to build the first nationwide optically switched data network, it joins a growing list of innovative companies that rely on Fujitsu optical transport products," said Ron Martin, COO of Fujitsu Network Communications. "Fujitsu strives to give our customers products and services backed with a high-level of reliability. I believe those three characteristics are why we haven't lost a customer in the 15 years we've been in business."

FLASHWAVE OADX is a next generation DWDM transmission and optical add/drop platform that provides up to 176 channels, each capable of carrying 10 gigabits (billion bits) per second of traffic. The system uses 88 channels in each of two bands of the transmission spectrum, the C and L bands, using 50GHz spacing between each channel.
